The castle Eichelsberg is an Outbound small Spur castle ( tower castle ) in the Taunus in Weilrod in Hochtaunuskreis in Hesse . The lost castle was probably a predecessor of the neighboring, former castle complex Eichelbacher Hof , which is located about 600 meters further south-west.

The Burgstall , on which only piles of stones can be found today, lies on a spur facing east and surrounded by two watercourses in the Gebück district . Today nothing is known about the actual appearance of the facility. It is not known whether the district name Gebück is derived from securing the facility with a hedge or whether the Gebück was used to secure the local border. 500 meters west of the castle stables, on the access road to the Eichelbacher Hof, a seven-meter-deep well carved through rock was found, which was dug up again by local residents in 1995/96.

The fountain

It is no longer possible to determine when the castle was built. The castle was first mentioned in 1213. An information board installed on site indicates that it could be built before 1000 AD. The complex was probably destroyed in the middle of the 14th century. Their function was probably to secure a local high road that ran along the old border.

Monument protection

The area of the ramparts is a ground monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, random finds must be reported to the monument authorities.
