The Drusenküppel is a medieval tower hill castle (Motte) about 300 meters east of Wehrheim - Obernhain in the Hochtaunuskreis . Even if the facility is in the heights of the Taunus, the classification as a Niederungsburg results from the small topographical location . It lies in a depression, surrounded by a damp meadow. The mound of earth is around 5 meters high today and has a round shape with a diameter of about 12 meters. A three to four meter wide trench with an earth wall is in front. Overall, the system measures around 40 meters in diameter. Today there is a group of trees here. This is designated as a natural monument .

Excavations by August von Cohausen (1871), Louis Jacobi (1895) and Heinrich Jacobi (1913) revealed that the castle had no stone walls. Only a few high medieval finds were recovered and are now exhibited in the Saalburg . In the immediate vicinity there are signs of iron smelting and slag heaps, so that it can be assumed that the Drusenküppel is related to medieval iron extraction. The facility can be compared with the Alte Schanz near Heidenrod - Zorn .

Monument protection

The area of the facility is a ground monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, and accidental finds are reported to the monument authorities.
