The castle Fenis , as Hasenburg called, is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle from the 11th century. It is located in the Swiss municipality of Ins in the canton of Bern .
Location and description
The castle is located on the Schlosshubel between Ins and Vinelz . Today some earth walls, terraces, the castle hill and approaches to the moat can still be seen, but the remains of the castle walls have not been preserved. The complex is very large compared to other castles in the region.
history
At the site of the castle there must have been a complex from the Hallstatt period to which the grave mounds of Ins were related. The castle was the ancestral seat of the barons and counts of Fenis. In 1117 the complex was destroyed by an earthquake .
