The Liebenzell Castle is a spur castle at 450  m above sea level. NN on a sloping mountain spur on the slope of the Schlossberg above the town of Bad Liebenzell in the Calw district in Baden-Württemberg . Liebenzell Castle was once the most important castle in the Württemberg Black Forest .

history

The castle was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Calw. In 1196 the Counts of Eberstein are mentioned as owners. From 1220 to 1230 the castle was expanded, destroyed in the 16th century and in 1692 and rebuilt in 1954.

Today the castle is owned by the International Forum Burg Liebenzell, Academy for Political Education and International Youth Exchange. It is a youth education and conference center. The Café Burg Liebenzell is open to the public seasonally.

The castle consists of an irregular Fünfeckanlage 2.7 meters high and 17.5 meters high shield wall in which a square keep is integrated with abortion. A legend describes a terrifying giant Erkinger who had a tower built here and who, as a robber and ogre, was up to mischief with two journeymen. He is said to have been over four meters tall and with particular fondness to have kidnapped the newlywed brides from the wedding feast, which he then devoured and threw their bones far out the window. Today's Beinberg lies on top of the heaped mountain . His huge dress, huge braces and an enormous shoe are said to have been kept for many years in the huge chapel in Hirsau Monastery .
