The castle Ottenstein is a Outbound castle in Ahausener district Ottenstein (Castle Street) in the district of Borken in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The castle was built stone on stone from 1318 to 1319 by Otto von Ahaus , son of the noble lord Bernhard II von Ahaus, in the marshland "Garbrock" and gave its name to Ottenstein. The castle, surrounded by two moats, served the citizens as a refuge .
When Otto von Ahaus's daughter married a Count von Solms , he gave her the castle, which was then the residence of the Solms Count.
In the years 1657 to 1664 was in the castle of Münsterer dean Bernhard von Mallinckrodt in captivity and died here.
After the castle fell into ruins , it was completely torn down in the 18th century and its rubble was used to build the parish church in Ottenstein.
