history
The castle was built around 1230 by the Lords of Ringenberg and was first mentioned in 1291 with a knight from Ringenburg, also called von Horben zu Ringenberg. The Horben zu Ringenberg were knights and servants of the Counts of Montfort-Bregenz . In the middle of the 15th century the castle passed into the possession of the Horben zu Ringenberg and was sold by them to the farmer Anton Wagner (from then on called "Schlossbauer") due to excessive indebtedness and fell into disrepair after 1776. In 1832 the Horber family died with the Baron Anselm von Horben zu Ringenberg. The castle tower remained inhabited until 1892.
description
The former castle complex had a 33 by 20 meter main castle with a round tower in the north corner and the southern tip, a sickle-shaped neck ditch in the northwest and a 70 by 50 meter outer bailey in the west. Today the complex only shows the remains of the walls of the main and outer bailey as well as the remains of the tower and the remains of the neck ditch.
