history

The castle was probably founded by the second son of Count Marquard von Altshausen , known as Siegfried. Later, between the years 1210 and 1246, the lords of Sattel zu Siegberg are named with Werner von Siegberg. They were ministerials of the Reichenau monastery . This family was mentioned until 1301, most recently as a citizen of the city of Riedlingen . 1311, among others, the castle and its associated location Upflamör for 540 pound Heller of the Counts of Veringen to the monastery Zwiefalten sold. The facility must have been destroyed shortly afterwards; in 1350 it is only known as the castle stables .

description

View from the west of the mountain spur

The two-part castle complex is divided into a core castle located on a sloping rocky mountain spur , and another fortification or fortified farmyard located on the edge of the valley. The core castle at the end of the spur is cut off from the rest of the ridge by a neck ditch and is divided into a 14 by 15 meter outer castle and a 14 by 13 meter core castle area separated by a further ditch . In the core area there was probably only a tower-like building, possibly a permanent house .

About 50 meters to the south, on the edge of the valley, there is another fortification cut off by an arched wall with a ditch. Its area is about 90 by 55 meters and was probably the place of the fortified farmyard belonging to the castle.

Since the site of the former castle is now wooded, the best place to get an impression of the strategic location is at the eastern exit of Upflamör.
