The Burg Varta (German Warta ) is located in Olešnice ( Waldschnitz ) in rechtselbischen Czech Central Mountains in the Czech Republic . From the medieval castle, only a few remains of walls, moats and ramparts located on a hill are preserved.

history

At the end of the 14th century, the castle and the manor belonged to the Škopek branch of the Lords of Dubá , who also owned the Liebeschitz manor in the southeast . When Beneš Škopek von Dubá handed over the rule to his son of the same name in 1397, it included the surrounding villages of Groß-Priesen with two outbuildings , Klein-Priesen , Wittine, Ostrowie (desert?), Welchen, Sulloditz, Presci, Malschen in addition to the castle and the Varta farm , Budowe, Waltirz, Wittal, Pschira. Between 1399 and 1401 she came from Beneš Silný (the strong) Škopek von Dubá to the Wartenbergs on Tetschen . The people of Wartenberg put castle captains on Varta, among whom Otto von Luckau was involved in a feud for Schreckenstein Castle against his masters in 1405. It is unclear whether Varta Castle survived the Hussite War. Only Groß-Priesen is mentioned below as the whereabouts of the Wartenbergers. Varta Castle no longer appears in the sources after 1465.
