Zähringen Castle

The zähringen castle is an Outbound Spur castle on the 625  m above sea level. NN high Schlossberg on the edge of the valley near the district of Zähringen in the municipality of Altheim in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg .

No documents are known about the small castle , 1361 a Rumelin von Zeringen is mentioned as a citizen in Altheim. In 1385 the village of Zähringen came into the possession of the imperial city of Ulm . It is unclear whether the castle can be associated with the Zähringer family of the same name , but there is no evidence.

Only small remains of ramparts and moats can be seen from the former castle complex .
