Burgensteig mountain road
The Burgensteig Bergstraße is a run by the Odenwaldklub e. V. (OWK) well-tended long-distance hiking trail that runs in the western Odenwald along the mountain road from Darmstadt-Eberstadt to Heidelberg .
With a total length of 85 to 120 kilometers and an altitude of approx. 3,650 meters, the Burgensteig , known as the main hiking trail HW73 , leads past many castles, palaces and places of worship along the Bergstraße. It was in January 2015 as a successor of similar running castle path (Odenwald) certified and is now held with a blue B with the symbol of the Blue Castle on a white background marked.
While the route of the Burgensteig runs in the northern part mainly through the wooded area around the Frankenstein Castle and the Melibokus , the southern part of this hiking trail leads largely through the vineyards of the Bergstrasse. For hikers who have come from afar, it is particularly advantageous that the castle trail leads to larger towns again and again, which is very useful when planning a stage or looking for accommodation. Particularly interesting destinations to which the Burgenweg among other things, leads are the Frankenstein Castle that Alsbach Castle , the city of Weinheim and Heidelberg Castle . A recommendation from the Odenwald Club suggests a division into nine stages.
The Burgensteig crosses other quality routes, such as the Nibelungensteig near Zwingenberg and the Neckarsteig near Heidelberg . The Burgensteig, described as sporty or challenging, which alternately leads over the mountain ranges and valleys of the Bergstrasse and the Odenwald, has a smaller counterpart, the blossom path , which runs mostly parallel for 95 kilometers and with much less height difference along halfway through the vineyards of the Hessian and Baden Bergstrasse leads. Over 30 caches (hiding places) are intended to attract geocaching enthusiasts to the Burgensteig.
