Neckarsteig near Neunkirchen

The Neckarsteig is a 126.7-kilometer long- distance hiking trail and grade hiking trail over 3127 meters in altitude in 9 stages from Heidelberg to Bad Wimpfen . It is part of the Neckarweg . It owes its name to the Neckar river , above which it is located in the Odenwald .

Overall, the route is very varied and worth seeing. On the one hand, the environment changes constantly, from forest to meadow, from mountain to valley. On the other hand, it also offers cultural variety with a whole range of sights .

The route maintained by the Odenwaldklub is signposted throughout with a sign with a blue, curved N on a white background for the river name. The connection with local public transport makes it easy to walk each stage separately.

history

The Neckarsteig was certified on December 29, 2011 by the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Associations as a " quality trail for hikers in Germany " and was officially inaugurated on April 21, 2012.

Brief description

The Neckarsteig begins in Heidelberg at Heidelberg Castle and leads first over the Königstuhl east to Neckargemünd , Dilsberg and over the Neckar to Neckarsteinach . Darsberg , Neckarhausen , Hirschhorn and Igelsbach are on the north-eastern route to Eberbach . From Eberbach the further course of the route is directed south-east, crossing the Neckar halfway in the direction of Neunkirchen . Shortly before Neckargerach , the Neckar is crossed again and finally the route leads through Mosbach south via Gundelsheim after another river crossing to the destination Bad Wimpfen . The stages can be classified as rather demanding in terms of difficulty.
