The area Badische mountain road is in the north of Baden-Wuerttemberg located wine-growing area of the wine region Baden . It is part of the Bergstrasse in the Rhein-Neckar district and has been part of the Baden wine-growing region since 1971.

Until 1971, the Badische mountain road formed along with the Hessian mountain road the vineyards mountain road .

location

The Badische Bergstrasse stretches south of Heppenheim in the Bergstrasse district in Hesse , on the western slope of the Odenwald and the Upper Rhine Plain , from Laudenbach to Wiesloch . Together with the Hessian Bergstrasse, it forms the Bergstrasse, which extends from Darmstadt in Hesse to Wiesloch in Baden-Württemberg.

The well-known mild climate of the Bergstrasse, which is also known as the German Riviera , is particularly beneficial for viticulture. In addition, there is the favorable soil for the vines. The terrain is very rugged and has many steep slopes . The Bergstrasse presents itself as a blooming garden at the beginning of spring, when cherry, peach and almond trees wake up from hibernation.

history

The Badische Bergstrasse wine-growing area emerged from the former Bergstrasse wine-growing area in 1971 through a change in the wine law . The Bergstrasse wine-growing area lost the Baden part of its cultivation area and has been called " Hessische Bergstrasse " since then . Almost half of the original acreage went to Baden . As a result of restructuring measures in Baden , the Badische Bergstrasse was incorporated into the Baden wine-growing region as one of nine wine-growing areas.

The Romans probably began to grow wine on the Bergstrasse about 2,000 years ago. Viticulture was first mentioned in the 8th century in the Lorsch Codex ( Codex Laureshamensis ).

Area and yield

The vineyard area is 396 hectares (as of 2004) and is therefore smaller than that of the neighboring Hessische Bergstrasse. Schriesheim is the largest wine-growing town on the Badische Bergstrasse.

Locations and grape varieties

The Badische Bergstrasse is one of the northernmost wine-growing areas in the Baden wine-growing region. In the castle-dominated landscape around Heidelberg, it is above all the Riesling and the Silvaner that are particularly valued here. But the white Burgundy varieties Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris can also mature well because of the many sunny days and thus produce fruity and finesse-rich wines.

The wine-growing area has the major Rittersberg site with 12 sites:

  • Laudenbacher Sonnberg, Hemsbacher Herrnwingert, Lützelsachsen Stephansberg, Hohensachsen Stephansberg, Großsachsen Sandrocken, Leutershausener Kahlberg, Leutershausener Staudenberg, Schriesheimer Madonnenberg, Schriesheimer Staudenberg, Schriesheimer Schlossberg, Schriesheimer Kuhberg, Dossenheimer Ölberg

Events

The famous Schriesheim Mathais market traditionally begins on the first weekend in March in Schriesheim . It is the first big spring and wine festival on Bergstrasse. The two-castle town of Weinheim is known for its sights with numerous events.
