Burghard Flieger

Burghard Flieger (born August 8, 1952 in Wuppertal - Elberfeld ) is a German social scientist with a focus as a cooperative practitioner and theorist.

Life

Flieger studied economics, sociology and ethnology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and graduated in 1977 with a degree in economics . In 1988 he received his doctorate in business education with a dissertation on the productive cooperative as a progressive organization (using the example of PSI AG ) at the University of Kassel .

After working as an assistant at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , Burghard Flieger worked in various research groups and institutes. a. the Institute for Ecological Economic Research (Berlin) and the Klaus Novy Institute (Cologne). As the editor in charge, he worked for the magazine “Das Neue Unternehmens” and Contraste , among others . As an author and editor he has published many essays and books with which he has often opened up new topics and popularized innovative approaches to economic and social issues.

He has held or has held executive and supervisory board positions in numerous cooperative companies. a. in the nationwide "innova eG development partnership for self-help cooperatives", the housing cooperative "Gebau Süd" (Freiburg), the Ökobank eG (Frankfurt) and the resulting OekoGeno eG (Freiburg).

His main research interests are in the area of cooperatives , collective self-administration , employee participation and ecological economics .

As an organizational consultant and project developer, he has advised and accompanied, in particular, productive cooperative companies with their establishment, often those with social, ecological and other charitable objectives. In recent times he has been particularly committed to community energy cooperatives in connection with the energy transition .

He has volunteered for several decades in funding organizations for alternative and solidary economy , including a. in the theory working group for alternative economics (TAK-AÖ), in the “Federal Association for the Promotion of the Genossenschaftsgedankens e. V. ”as well as in the“ Network for Self-Administration and Self-Organization e. V. ".
