Udo Burkholder
Udo Burkholder was the last inspector of the Federal Border Police (BGS) from March 21, 2001 and the first and last inspector of the Federal Police , the successor organization of the BGS, since July 1, 2005 .
Burkholder, who served in the Federal Border Police for around 40 years, served as inspector until his retirement on December 31, 2007. “Highest uniform wearer” of the Federal Police. It was passed on December 30, 2007 in the Federal Police Department Blumberg near Berlin by Federal Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble . During his tenure, the Federal Border Guard, founded in 1951, was converted into the Federal Police.
Initially, Burkholder worked in the West and East Border Guard Command as well as in the Koblenz Border Guard Department in the higher-level police force . In 1981 he moved to the police department of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI). In 1995 he became head of the Federal Border Police at Frankfurt / Main Airport. In 1997 he returned to the BMI as head of department. Since August 2000 he has been President of the Central Border Guard Presidium in Fuldatal (Hesse).
As part of the reorganization of the Federal Police, the position of inspector will no longer be filled and will be replaced by the post of President of the Federal Police Headquarters, who does not necessarily have to be a police officer. Udo Burkholder is the first and last inspector of the Federal Police.
Burkholder replaced Walter Sperner in his office as inspector of the Federal Border Police , who retired at the end of March 2001. Since 2010 he has been Acting Head of the Mission in the " European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM)".
