The Hohenburg castle ruins near Pusarnitz are located west of Spittal an der Drau .
The small, already badly dilapidated hilltop castle lies on an elongated rock ridge north of the Lurnfeld . The castle extends over an area 80 m long and only 12 m wide with a trench-like hollow in the middle. The few remaining building remains go back to the 12th century. The layout of the Hohenburg indicates a medieval section castle.
The former castle chapel was expanded into the pilgrimage church Maria in Hohenburg in 1707 and has thus been preserved.
history
The castle was first mentioned in 1142 as castrum Hohenburc as the ancestral seat of the old dynasty of the Counts of Lurn , who administered the Lurngau . With the death of Bishop Altmann von Trient in 1149, the castle became the property of Salzburg. The Archbishop of Salzburg belehnte 1311 the counts of Ortenburg , who sought a long time for this property, with a part of the High Castle, as Gurkenhous was called, and the part of a " planchen zaigent hinumb the cistern and the poumgarten before the hous ". The Hohenburg lost its importance when its successor, Burg Feldsberg, became the administrative seat of Salzburg.
Possibly the Hohenburg was in disputes between the Counts of Gorizia and Emperor Friedrich III. destroyed.
