The Pux castle ruins are located southeast of the new Pux Castle near Frojach in the Teufenbach-Katsch community in the Murau district in Styria . The castle ruin has been a listed building since 2016 ( list entry ).

history

The hilltop castle is located above the village of Pux on the edge of the Puxberg , at an altitude of 790  m above sea level. A. Below the slope, an old Roman path originally ran alongside the Mur between Katsch and Pux.

The complex was probably built at the same time as the Puxer Luegg defense structure around the middle of the 11th century. The occupied since the 12th century castle stood until 1425 owned by the Puxer and to 1559 in the possession of Pranckher ; from 1872 again in the possession of the Pranckher.

Building

There are only small remains of the two-part defense structure, in particular from the Niederhaus . This former residential building served as a granary from the 15th to the 18th century and burned down on Christmas night in 1779.

The new Pux Castle was built in 1911 from unplastered broken and house stones a little above the free-standing Pux Castle Chapel .
