history

In 1910 the foundation stone was laid for today's city school (colloquial yellow school ). The construction was carried out next to the Owl Tower and ceremoniously opened in September 1911. The name Burgsitzschule originated around 1928 when a higher private school was established in the “Herrenhaus Burgsitz” building. In 1929, the Burgsitz School was given the right to take the secondary school leaving exam . In 1930, 108 students, mostly from outside the city, attended the castle seat school. This remained the only school building in the city until the 1950s. In 1956, an extension was built in the former pleasure garden based on a design by the architect Wilhelm Balcke. The school room shortage could not be averted despite the new building. However, it could be alleviated by the establishment of four school pavilions on the grounds of the Evangelical Church, this happened in 1969. When the Schwalm-Eder district took over the school on January 1, 1970, a new building was planned and executed, which is still in today Use is.
