The settlement is first mentioned as Atinhouen in 1130. The later village of Ettenhofen was bought by the Höchstetter patrician family in 1513 and renamed Burckwalden.
Burgwalden was a district of Reinhartshausen . This municipality was incorporated into the city of Bobingen on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
