history
The Burhani-Tariqa first spread in the time of Sheikh Muhammad Uthman Abd al-Burhani († 1983). Before that, it usually consisted of a small group of dervishes and the Sheikh of the Tariqa, who passed on his knowledge to the respective successor.
Under Sheikh Muhammad Uthman, the tariqa found numerous followers in Sudan and Egypt - in the 1970s, estimates went into the hundreds of thousands in Egypt alone. Sheikh Muhammad Uthman, nicknamed Sayyid Fahr ad-Din, died on April 5, 1983 and is buried in Khartoum (Sudan). His grave is now a popular place of pilgrimage (Ziyārah) .
Under the direction of his son Sheikh Ibrahim Muhammad Uthman († 2003), the Tariqa has also spread widely outside of the Arab world, especially in Europe and the USA .
The order, which is under the current leadership of Sheikh Muhammad Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Muhammad Uthman, who in turn is the son of Sheikh Ibrahim, has a large number of members today. There are hundreds of Burhani communities around the world.
The seat of the European center of the order is Haus Schnede in the Lüneburg Heath .
