Burke is a census-designated place in Fairfax County in the US state of Virginia .
history
Emergence
The place was named after the politically active farmer and merchant, Silas Burke (1796-1854), who built his house around 1824 on a mound near Pohick Creek. When a railway line was laid through Burke's lands in the late 1840s , the station built there was named "Burke's Station" because Silas Burke had donated parts of his property to the railway company.
In 1852 a post office was opened in Burke.

Nowadays, many commuters live in the village due to the good commuting opportunities in the area of public transport, which offers regular connections to the American capital Washington .
