action

Kelly Taylor lives with her autistic brother Tom and greedy stepfather Johnny in a house that Johnny plans to convert into a safari ranch. As the main attraction, he buys a Bengal tiger from a circus , which had torn a horse in front of 300 spectators. Kelly has been the guardian of Tom since her mother's death and would like to place him in a care facility for the time of her college visit. This plan fails because Johnny invests the financial inheritance of Kelly and Tom's mother in his park.

Since a hurricane is imminent, the house is made storm-proof, windows and doors are boarded up. Johnny lets the tiger into the house in the evening and then drives to a bar to get drunk. When Kelly wakes up after a nightmare and sneaks through the house, she discovers the tiger and then tries to flee the house with Tom, but fails because of the storm-proof boarded windows and doors. A dangerous cat-and-mouse game ensues, made worse by Tom's autistic seizures. Several times they narrowly escape death, for example when Kelly climbs into a laundry chute or hides under a bed with Tom.

After narrowly escaping death again, Kelly finally discovers documents showing that she, her mother and her brother have been given life insurance, which will be paid to Johnny in the event of their death. Kelly realizes that Johnny murdered her mother and is now trying to kill her and Tom too. His bar visit should only serve as an alibi. When Johnny returns the next morning and breaks the front door, he is amazed that the two are still alive and is attacked and killed by the tiger shortly afterwards. Kelly and Tom leave the house hand in hand.
