Butisch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Butisch is an ancient Egyptian design that developed from the pre-dynastic lower Egyptian royal tombs and the crown shrine in Buto with the shrine Per-nu or Per-neser "Flame House". The form only exists in the character, as the previous forms have been lost in Buto. This form was most clearly depicted in royal sarcophagi of the 12th dynasty .

It is probably an elongated, rectangular building with a vaulted roof and raised corner supports made of wood and reeds. Bricks were later used as building material and the Butische was provided with a long barrel and raised narrow sides.

The lower Egyptian niche brick architecture ( "Menes" grave ) probably did not develop from the Butisch. The shape of the palm column or courtyards and rooms with palm columns are also interpreted as Butisch, as Butisch chapels often stood under a palm grove.
