Butterfinger is a brand name for a candy bar and some similar foods made by the Ferrero company .

A bar with this name was first sold by the Curtiss Candy Company in the United States in 1923 . The brand came to Nestlé via Standard Brands and Nabisco . There it is considered to be one of the best-selling sweets. It consists of a peanut brittle topping on peanut butter cream with a chocolate coating.

The ingredients are sugar , glucose syrup , roasted peanuts , vegetable fat , molasses , corn flakes , soy lecithin , condensed milk , flavoring , coloring agent Allura red AC , corn starch and citric acid .

In the production is genetically modified corn used. This led to protests by consumer advocates and Greenpeace , which led to the discontinuation of direct sales in Germany in July 1999.

On April 1, 2008, Nestlé published an April Fool's joke on its website announcing the change of name from Butterfinger to Finger .

Other foods that have a similar composition and taste are manufactured and sold under the Butterfinger brand :

In January 2018, Nestlé agreed to sell its US confectionery business, including the Butterfinger brand, to Ferrero .
