The Buttersee is a lake within the city limits of Neustrelitz in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The approximately 1.8 hectare body of water is located about eight kilometers south of the Neustrelitz town center and east of the Drewin district directly on the federal highway 96 . The lake is surrounded by a boggy silting strip and a coniferous forest area, which lies in a sander of the Pomeranian ice advance of the Vistula Ice Age . The lake is part of the Keetzseen nature reserve . The circumference of the water surface is about 500 meters, the extension about 185 by 140 meters. The water level of the water body, which is in a depression and has no drainage, is about 63 meters above that of the sea.
