Byep (also Maka, Makya, Meka, Mekae, Mekay, Mekey, Mekye, Mika and Moka) is a Bantu language and is spoken by around 9500 people in Cameroon (1988 census).
It is used by the Makaa people in the Haut-Nyong and Lom-et-Djérem counties in the Est province .

Byep is a northwest Bantu language and belongs to the Makaa-Njem group , which is classified as Guthrie Zone A80.
It has the dialect Besep (also Besha and Bindafum).
