Bekwil (also Bakwele, Bekwie, Bakwil, Bekwel and Okpele) is a Bantu language and is spoken by around 12,000 people in the Republic of the Congo , Cameroon and Gabon .

It is widespread in the Republic of the Congo in the Sangha region with around 9,600 speakers (2003 census), in Gabon in the Ogooué-Ivindo province with around 2,400 speakers (2000 census) and in Cameroon in the Boumba-et-Ngoko district in the Est province .

Bekwil is written in the Latin script .

classification

Bekwil is a northwest Bantu language and belongs to the Makaa-Njem group , which is classified as Guthrie Zone A80.

She has the dialect Esel (also Essel).

Approximately 85% of the vocabulary is similar to the vocabulary of the Koonzime language .
