Njyem (also Djem, Dzem, Ndjem, Ndjeme, Ndzem, Ngyeme, Njem and Nyem) is a Bantu language and is spoken by around 7000 people in Cameroon and the Republic of Congo .

It is widespread in Cameroon in the Haut-Nyong district in the Est Province with around 3,500 speakers and in the Republic of the Congo in the Sangha (Congo) region with around 3,500 speakers. Many members of the Baka people use it as a second language .

About 65 people can read Njyem and about 10 people can write the language. Around 85% of the speakers only speak this language, around 15% speak French as a second language .

classification

Njyem is a Northwest Bantu language and belongs to the Makaa Njem group , which is classified as the Guthrie Zone A80.
