Johann Pischek was the son of the mayor of Mscheno. He first studied law at the University of Prague before moving to the stage. His first appearance was a failure, so that he had to get by as a piano teacher with poor income. He did not get any support from his father, because he refused the artistic profession. Nevertheless, Pischek practiced singing with great zeal and also pursued general musical studies. From 1838 he worked at the City Theater in Brno , from 1839 at the Theater an der Wien and in Pressburg with ever increasing success. In 1840 he was appointed the first baritone player at the Stadttheater in Frankfurt . Four years later he was given a permanent position as a royal chamber singer at the court theater in Stuttgart . During the duration of his career, the Stuttgart Opera experienced a heyday. According to the contract, Pischek had four months vacation every year, so that he could use this time for touring. He appeared repeatedly in Vienna and London as an opera and lied singer and was able to achieve great success. He retired in 1864 and died in 1873 while visiting his daughter in Sigmaringen. He was buried in Stuttgart at the Fangelsbach cemetery.

His son Johann von Pischek was Minister of the Interior of the Kingdom of Württemberg from 1893 to 1912 .
