Byk guilders

The German pharmaceutical company Byk Gulden Lomberg Chemische Fabrik GmbH was a 100 percent subsidiary of Altana AG, based in Constance .

The company was founded in 1873 by Heinrich Byk as a chemical factory under the name “Dr. Heinrich Byk ”founded in Berlin. The first product was a synthetic sleep aid called Chloralum hydratum , which goes back to Justus von Liebig and Oscar Liebreich . In 1915 the company was renamed Byk Gulden after Byk had transferred his responsibility to the chemist Paul Gulden .

In 1941 Accumulatoren Fabrik AG (AFA) took over the majority of the company under the leadership of Günther Quandt . In 2002, Byk Gulden was renamed Altana Pharma AG .

In June 2007, Altana's pharmaceuticals division was sold to the Luxembourg Nycomed Group and has since operated under the company name Nycomed GmbH. This in turn was taken over in 2011 by Takeda , to which the pharmaceutical company still belongs today.
