Byron John Bitz (born July 21, 1984 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League .

Career

Byron Bitz was selected as the 107th overall player by the Boston Bruins during the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round . The attacker then played for the Cornell University ice hockey team in the NCAA for four years before joining the roster of Boston's farm team , the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League , before the 2007/08 season . While the Canadian was only used in the AHL in his first season in professional ice hockey, he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins on January 10, 2009 in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes . In March 2010 he was given to the Florida Panthers , where Bitz was also under contract in the 2010/11 season . However, long-term injury problems prevented him from playing in the league throughout the season. In early July 2011, the winger became available as a free agent and on July 25, 2011, the Vancouver Canucks provided him with a contract.
