Cà Mau is a city in the south of Vietnam . It is the capital of the province of the same name Cà Mau . The incumbent Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng was born and raised in this city. Cà Mau is characterized by its canal system, most goods are transported by boats and barges. Vietnamese, Chinese and Khmer live together here.

economy

Cà Mau is Vietnam's largest seafood exporter. The most important product is frozen shrimp , the main customer is the USA . In 2005 alone, the province of Cà Mau exported seafood worth approximately US $ 500 million.

A major project is currently under construction in Cà Mau: The gas, electricity and fertilizer project is scheduled to be completed in 2009, and the total investment is US $ 1.5 billion. As part of this project, a gas pipeline , two power plants and a fertilizer factory will be built. The pipeline runs from gas fields off the coast in the southwest to Cà Mau and will supply the power plants and the fertilizer factory. The fertilizer factory will have a capacity of 800,000 tons per year.

The two identical combined cycle power plants with an output of 750 megawatts each  are under construction. They will be built by Siemens ; the first power plant is scheduled to be completed in early 2008 and the second is scheduled for the end of 2008. At the time of completion, these power plants would account for 18% of Vietnam's electricity production.

During the Vietnam War, Cà Mau was the position of the units of Nguyen Lac Hoa .
