Vehicle license plates in Vietnam are issued by the local police station ( công an ).
Colours
- black letters on a white background: common marks
- white letters on a blue background: license plates of civil authorities and the police
- white letters on a red background: marks of the military
- white letters on a yellow background: mark of the border guard
- red lettering on a yellow background: identifiers of companies in special economic zones
Ordinary license plates
In the case of ordinary license plates, the first two digits indicate the province in which the vehicle is registered.
