License plate (Thailand)
Thai license plates are usually 340 mm × 150 mm in size. They show two letters of the Thai alphabet , the first of which indicates the type of vehicle. A maximum of four digits follow. At the bottom, the name of the province in which the vehicle was registered appears, also in Thai script. Sinceall possible combinations according to this scheme have already been exhaustedin Bangkok , signs with an additional number in the first place have been issued since 2012. Different color combinations are used depending on the purpose and type of vehicle.
License plates for buses and trucks use a slightly different design. They initially show two digits that indicate the type of vehicle. A four-digit serial number follows a dash. At the top edge of the shield, the country name appears to the left of a two or three-digit number that encodes the province. As on the other signs, the full province name is shown at the bottom. Private vehicles have a white background; commercial vehicles have a yellow background.
