Vĩnh Phúc with the capital Vĩnh Yên is one of the smaller provinces of Vietnam . It extends over 1371 km² and has about one million inhabitants. It makes up 0.42% of the area and 1.2% of the population of the country.
Vĩnh Phúc borders the provinces of Tuyên Quang and Thái Nguyên in the north, Hanoi in the southwest and Phú Thọ in the west. Various ethnic groups live in the province, the majority of which are Việt / Kinh . Smaller groups of the Sán Dìu , Sán Chay and Tày also live there .
