Southeast region

Đông Nam Bộ ( Southeast ), also colloquially Miền Đông (roughly "Eastern Region"), is a region of Vietnam . It is located in the south of the country and includes Ho Chi Minh City and the neighboring provinces of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu (with the Côn Đảo archipelago ), Bình Dương , Bình Phước , Đồng Nai and Tây Ninh . In some cases, the two provinces of Bình Thuận and Ninh Thuận located further to the east are also included.

Together with the Mekong Delta region bordering to the west , the south- east region forms the greater region of Nam Bộ (South Vietnam). To the east, the central highland region and the southern coastal region border.

In 2011, the region (excluding the provinces of Bình Thuận and Ninh Thuận) had 14.89 million inhabitants on an area of 23,597.9 km². With a population density of 631 people per km², the southeast was the second most densely populated region of Vietnam (after the Red River Delta ). Due to the economic importance of Ho Chi Minh City, the region is also by far the most economically powerful in the country.

Other important cities in the region are Biên Hòa and Vũng Tàu .

The landscape of the region is characterized by the transition from the flat plains of the Mekong and Đồng-Nai deltas to the central highlands. There are four national parks : Cát Tiên , Bù Gia Mập , Côn Đảo and Lò Gò Xa Mát .
