About this picture

Thừa Thiên-Huế (until 1975 also Thừa Thiên ) is a province in central Vietnam . The province borders Quang Tri in the north, Đà Nẵng and Quảng Nam in the south and Laos in the west .

history

During the Vietnam War , the region was one of the most contested areas in the country: With 2,893 casualties, no more members of the US Army died in any province than in Thừa Thiên-Huế.

topography

Topographically , Thừa Thiên-Huế is divided into four zones: mountains , hills , plains and lagoons , whereby the first two together already make up about 83% of the total area.
The province is a flow area of the Hương Giang ("Perfume River") and includes the Bach Ma National Park, the core of the last closed forest area in Central Vietnam.

economy

Although around 95% of households are supplied with electricity and Thừa Thiên-Huế is regionally connected by Phu Bai Airport , National Road 1 and the ports of Thuan An and Chan May, the province's gross domestic product was below USD 284 per capita in 2003 the national average of $ 482.
Due to the large proportion of mountainous and forested regions, agriculture can only be practiced on 10.6% of the area .

Administrative structure

The province is divided into the following eight districts:

  • A Lưới
  • Hương Thủy
  • Hang Trà
  • Nam Đông
  • Phong Điền
  • Phu Lộc
  • Phu Vang
  • Quảng Điền

As the capital, Huế has the status of its own municipality .
