The Cão de Castro Laboreiro (CCL) is a Portuguese breed of dogs recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 2, Section 2.2, Standard No. 170 ).

Origin and history

It was named after the Portuguese town of Castro Laboreiro . Like the mountain dog of the Serra da Estrela, the breed is said to be one of the oldest in Europe.

The dogs are kept as guard dogs for the cattle and on the farms in the region of Castro Laboreiro. They are also used to guard the house and yard. Due to the way of life of the people who inhabit this region, the dog had to be agile and agile. The climate forced and continues to force people there to "pasture tourism". The Cão de Castro Laboreiro is a medium-sized, very elegant dog.
