Celia Lovsky

Celia Lovsky , born and until 1935 also active as Cäcilie Lvovsky , (born February 21, 1897 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † October 12, 1979 in Los Angeles , California ) was an Austrian - American actress .

Life

She was born as Cäcilie Lvovsky in Vienna as the daughter of Bratislav Lvovsky (1857–1910), an important Czech composer. Some sources put your birthday as February 12th and others as February 21st.

She studied theater at the Austrian Royal Art and Music Academy. Lovsky had received training in singing, dancing and acting and began her artistic career in 1916 at the Vienna Court Opera Theater. It wasn't until 1922 that she was able to get her next permanent engagement, this time at the Neue Wiener Bühne. The actress was later seen at the Frankfurt Schauspielhaus and Berlin theaters. She later moved to Berlin, where she met her future husband Peter Lorre . The couple traveled to Paris , London and the United States. In 1933 she left Germany with her husband and fled to the USA via Austria and Great Britain. In Hollywood she continued the work she had started in Berlin at the beginning of the talky-film era under the slightly changed name Celia Lovsky. Cäcilie Lovsky and Peter Lorre divorced in 1945.

Most recently, the artist found one or the other task in television productions. Her last role was in 1974 on The Streets of San Francisco . Their most famous role is probably that of T'Pau in Star Trek - Episode Amok Time . She is one of the few Star Trek actors born in the 19th century.
