Côte-Sainte-Catherine is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the Arrondissement of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce at the intersection of Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine and Avenue Victoria. Trains on orange line 2 run here . In 2006, 1,849,035 passengers used the station, which corresponds to 47th place out of a total of 68 stations on Metro Montreal .

Building

The station designed by Gilbert Sauvé was built in the form of a tunnel station , with the central part being an open construction . The large and spacious hall, in which the distribution level is also located, has a sloping ceiling, which results in the shape of a triangle. The walls are painted orange, green and yellow. The entrance pavilion made of glass and steel refers to the triangular shapes of the central hall.

The platform level with two side platforms is 17.7 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 451.10 meters to Plamondon and 693.00 meters to Snowdon . There are connections to two bus lines and a night bus line of the Société de transport de Montréal . Nearby are the Center commémoratif de l'Holocauste à Montréal and the Center Segal des arts de la scène .

art

Architect Gilbert Sauvé also did the artistic design of the station. The walls of the two platforms are decorated with a relief, consisting of zigzag-shaped concrete panels. The closer they are to the stairs, the narrower they become. This creates the visual impression of acceleration.

history

The station opened on January 4, 1982, along with the short section from Snowdon. For almost half a year, Côte-Sainte-Catherine was the western terminus of the orange line, until it was extended to Plamondon on June 29, 1982. It is named after the Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine, named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria . The road leads to Outremont , which was still called Côte-Sainte-Catherine in the 18th century.
