c-FOS is a component of the transcription factor AP-1 and a proto-oncogene .
properties
FosB , Fra-1 and Fra-2 as well as the smaller FosB splice variants FosB2 and ΔFosB also belong to the same Fos protein family . The gene belongs to the immediate early genes . The protein c-Fos binds to BCL3 , COBRA1 , CSNK2A1 , CSNK2A2 , DDIT3 , c-Jun NCOA1 , NCOR2 , RELA , RUNX1 , RUNX2 , SMAD3 and TBP .
Mutations in the c-Fos gene occur in various tumors . The homolog of the c-Fos from retroviruses is called v-Fos (viral Fos).
