c-Jun is a component of the transcription factor AP-1 and a proto-oncogene .

c-Jun is involved in the cell cycle and apoptosis . Mutations in the gene of c-Jun occur in various tumors . c-Jun was the first oncogenic transcription factor described. The homolog of the c-Jun ( English cellular Jun ) from retroviruses is called v-Jun ( English viral Jun ).
