C. Scoby Stroman

Clarence Scoby Stroman (born 1931 in North Carolina or Brooklyn , † March 28, 1996 in Brooklyn) was an American dancer and drummer on the New York jazz scene .

Stroman, who grew up in Brooklyn, began performing as a tap dancer at the age of five and soon after began playing drums. During his career he worked a. a. with Max Roach , who was his most important teacher, and with Jerome Richardson , Randy Weston , Barry Harris , Babatunde Olatunji , Ed Stout , Roland Alexander , Mickey Davidson , Sun Ra and Dianne McIntyre . He also performed with the poet Langston Hughes ; at the Museum of the City of New York or the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium he presented his own performances, which he called drummetry , a combination of poetry and drumming.
