Integrin α-2 (synonym CD49b ) is a surface protein from the group of integrins .
properties
Integrin α-2 is a cell adhesion molecule . Together with integrin beta-1 it forms a heterodimeric receptor for laminin , collagen and its C- propeptides , fibronectin and E-cadherin . Integrin α-2 binds to the amino acid sequence GlyPheHypGlyAspArg in collagen. It inhibits the activity of the EGF receptor . Integrin α-2 is glycosylated . It is involved in the cell adhesion of platelets and other cells to collagens. It modulates the gene expression of collagens and collagenases . The protein complex of integrin α-2 and β-1 is also the receptor for the human rotavirus and human ECHO viruses of types 1 and 8.
