Integrin α-3 (synonym CD49c ) is a surface protein from the group of integrins .

properties

Integrin α-3 is a cell adhesion molecule . The isoform 1 is in many tissues formed, the isoform 2 in the brain and heart. In the brain, both isoforms are only on cells of the smooth muscle of blood vessels formed, while in the heart of the isoform 1 mainly by smooth muscle cells and isoform 2 only by endothelial cells of the vein expressed will. Integrin α-3 forms with integrin beta-1 a heterodimeric receptor for fibronectin , laminin , collagen , epiligrin , thrombospondin and CSPG4 . It is glycosylated , palmitoylated and phosphorylated . Integrin α-3 is believed to be involved in the metastasis of tumors .

Mutations in integrin α-3 are involved in the development of epidermolysis bullosa .

Integrin α-3 binds to CD9 , FHL2 , LGALS8 , and TSPAN4 .
