Tetraspanin-25 (synonymous CD53 ) is a surface protein from the group of tetraspanins .

properties

Like CD9 , CD63 and CD81 , tetraspanin-25 belongs to the group of tetraspanins, which are characterized by four hydrophobic protein domains . It is made by B cells , monocytes , macrophages , neutrophils, and simply CD4 or CD8 positive T cells and peripheral T cells. It is also produced by NK cells , where it inhibits the immune response of the NK cells. Tetraspanin-25 is glycosylated . It forms homomultimers of less than ten tetraspanin-25. Tetraspanin-25 binds to MT1-MMP .

The gene expression of tetraspanin-25 is reciprocal to the viral load in untreated HIV- infected people.
