Cercle d'Education Physique Fleurus is a Belgian basketball team from Fleurus . The club’s men's team had its most successful period in the 1980s when they participated in European club competitions several times. In the 2012/13 season the men's team played in the second Belgian division Nationale 2.

history

After the team was founded in 1925, she joined the association in 1936 and also took part in championship games after the war. The team experienced a sporting upswing after André Robert took over the presidency in 1965, who would hold this 38 years until 2003. As early as 1969, the promotion to the second Belgian division was achieved and the establishment of the Bonsecours hall also enabled the team to develop, which three years later rose to the top national league. Six years later, the first participation in a European club competition took place when you missed the group stage in the Korać Cup 1979/80 after the successful qualification against Karşıyaka SK with the elimination against KK Borac Čačak . In 1980 and two seasons later in 1982 they achieved third place in the final table and the best placements in the Belgian championship. In the Korać Cup 1981/82 they were also eliminated before the group stage when the basketball team of Vasas Budapest failed. Just one year later, in 1983, he was temporarily relegated to second class.

1985 succeeded in returning to the top division. Under the direction of the Czechoslovak coach Jiří Zedníček , the best player in the EM 1967 , attempts were made to further improve their sporting profile and finally the team's headquarters were relocated to the neighboring Charleroi , where they competed under the sponsor name CEP Boigelot Charleroi and again in the Korać Cup in 1987 / 88 attended. Again it was over before the group stage when the renowned European team from Real Madrid were clearly defeated. However, new sponsors and spectator support were not permanent, as these were already contested by the new local rival Spirou BC Charleroi at the end of the 1980s . The CEP then disappeared into oblivion.

In 2006, after returning to Fleurus, the men's team won the championship in the third division and returned to the second division. There they won the championship two years later in 2008. A promotion to the top division was not possible because the league called Ethias League now existed as a closed class and CEP Fleurus lacked the financial means to achieve participation in the closed league and keep up there.
