CRAFT Austria
The CRAFT Austria ( C ombined R Escue and F irefighting T eam Austria) was an Austrian task force for disaster relief abroad. It used to be called Task Force Austria . It consisted of fire brigades , the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), d. H. Officials of the police and the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe and was deployed on request from abroad. The BMI issued the order for action, but all units worked under the command structure of the fire brigade.
CRAFT Austria could be requested from various places:
- from the United Nations ,
- from NATO under the Partnership for Peace , or
- from the European Civil Protection Association of the EU .
The force was operational within 12 hours. The aim was to work as independently as possible, which means that all units are either taken along at the same time or forwarded from Austria. The troops were deployed with their own equipment within a radius of 1000 km, ie they drove with their own vehicles. It was flown at greater distances. The CRAFT Austria has been deployed several times during earthquakes , and it has also been on standby several times during forest fires. In May 2005 parts of the CRAFT were in use in the flood area near Timisoara in Romania . She was involved in exercises in Croatia in 2002 at an international forest fire exercise or at Dacia 2003 in Romania, where Austria provided the largest team. Assumption was a "dirty bomb" attack . The radiation protection service was also deployed. In 2004 the EUDREX 2004 exercise was carried out in the Wiener Neustadt area ( Tritolwerk ) with a focus on pollutants, in which CRAFT Austria also took part.
CRAFT Austria was dissolved in 2006 by resolution of the organizations involved.
