history

CRH Swiss Distribution emerged in spring 2007 from the merger of the Gétaz Romang Group , which was taken over by the Irish building materials group Cement Roadstone Holding (CRH), and BR Bauhandel AG , which was previously owned by CRH .

Founded in 1856 as a trading business for building materials and registered in the commercial register in 1899 under the name Gétaz & Romang (from 1978 Gétaz Romang AG ), the company grew over the decades, including through various takeovers, to become one of the most important building materials dealers in western Switzerland . It was not until 1988 that Gétaz Romang expanded into German-speaking Switzerland through various acquisitions . In 1999, Miauton Holding AG, based in Montreux, joined the Gétaz Romang Group, which was founded in 1880 and specializes in the wholesale trade of metals, hardware and tools as well as equipment and machines for civil engineering. The Gétaz Romang Group, which was listed until the takeover by CRH, achieved a turnover of 875 million francs in 2006 with around 1,550 employees.

The oldest brand within CRH Swiss Distribution, and also the first to be owned by CRH, is Richner AG , founded in 1799 as a pottery . This was taken over in 1962 by the Jura Cement factories and expanded through various takeovers. With the takeover of Jura-Holding by CRH in 2000, Richner AG also came into the possession of CRH. As a result, the Jura Holding was geared towards the production of building materials, while the building materials trade was directly incorporated into CRH and in 2002 all previous operations were merged into one company. In the same year, the CRH Group took over the Holcim BauBedarf Group through Richner AG . In 2003 the Richner Group and the BauBedarf Group merged to form BR Bauhandel AG .

After the merger to form the new CRH Swiss Distribution, it took over the two Ticino companies Regusci SA and Reco SA in May 2008 , thereby expanding their area of activity to all of Switzerland.
