CSD in Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christopher Street Day (CSD) has been held in Switzerland in different regions (Zurich, Basel, and western Switzerland) since 1978 .

Beginnings

The first CSD in Europe took place in Switzerland on June 24, 1978 in Zurich under the name Christopher Street Day . The organizer was Switzerland. Organization of Homophiles (SOH). With the handover of a petition for the cancellation of the gay register, a sit-in was carried out on Zurich's Platzspitz .

CSD in the regions

Zurich

Zurich has held an annual CSD since 1994. This day initially took place at the end of July, then at the end of June and, since 2004, at the beginning of June. It has meanwhile become one of the major festivities in Zurich and is also officially flagged out by the city. After the speeches on Helvetiaplatz, a train of several thousand people will lead through the city center until 2008. The parade routes changed with the Europride and the Zurich Pride Festival. A big festival with stage performances and market stalls will then take place on Turbinenplatz . In 2009 the Europride was held in Zurich . The CSD Stonewall Award is also presented on Christopher Street Day in Zurich . In addition, an ecumenical service is celebrated, which is carried out by the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich, the Roman Catholic Church in the Canton of Zurich and the Christian Catholic parish of Zurich.

Western Switzerland

Since 1997 there has also been an annual gay pride in western Switzerland . Following the example of the German-speaking Swiss gay demos of the 1980s, this takes place every year in a different place in French-speaking Switzerland . The 2001 Gay Pride in Sion , in particular, caused a sensation , when the Valais bishop Norbert Brunner condemned the move as a “devilish game” and thus triggered an unexpected media response.

Central Switzerland

In 2005 a national rally was held in Lucerne .

More CSDs

In addition to Zurich, Basel held a CSD in 2003. This saw itself as the CSD of the Dreilandes ( Germany - France - Switzerland) together with the Alsatian Mulhouse and the Baden Freiburg im Breisgau . But this idea fizzled out.

In Kreuzlingen / Konstanz , a cross-border (i.e. two-country) CSD takes place every two years, next time on July 11, 2015.
