Ca 'Tron is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Santa Croce sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Belloni Battagia and the Palazzo Duodo , near the Church of San Stae . The palace is owned by the Università IUAV di Venezia , which houses the Faculty of Urban and Territorial Planning there.

history

Ca 'Tron was built in the second half of the 16th century by an unknown architect from the Jacopo Sansovino school as the home of the Tron family , who lived there until it died out in the 19th century.

Under the noble Andrea Tron the palace reached its highest splendor; this wanted to expand it by two side wings.

Thereafter, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Ca 'Tron went through a phase of massive decline under different managements until the building became a seat of the IUAV University of Venice in 1972, which had a major restoration carried out.

description

The L-shaped building consists of the ground floor, a mezzanine floor above and two main floors. The latter are clearly different from the former and are clad with Istrian stone. The facade is asymmetrical, its left part is less expansive: the portal and the central openings of the main floors are thus shifted from the central axis to the left.

The division of the two main floors, which are separated by cornices, is formed by eight arched windows each , of which the four central four-fold windows .

The small rear facade of the Ca 'Tron over a garden with a fountain in the middle has two five-arched windows with balustrade on the main floors. There is only one opening on the ground floor, which is divided by two small pillars.

The interior of the palace is completely rearranged because the various works that have been carried out over the past two centuries have resulted in a consequent deterioration in the artistic heritage: therefore, the frescoes by Louis Dorigny and the stucco work inside, despite the restorations, are not good Status.
